Switzerland announced its roster for the Karjala Cup on Wednesday. The four-team tournament runs from Nov 7 to 10 in Helsinki, Finland. Host Finland, Sweden and Czechia have already announced their rosters.

The last time the Swiss men’s national team took to the ice, it lost 2-0 to Czechia in the gold-medal game of the IIHF World Championship. Unlike the other three teams, this team includes several holdovers, with the goaltenders being a notable exception. The entire squad is from Switzerland’s National League.

Somewhat surprisingly, 41-year-old veteran Andres Ambühl has been selected. Ambühl is the all-time leader in IIHF World Championship games and tournaments, and this year became the all-time games leader in the domestic National League.

A notable inclusion that was not on the World Championship team is Denis Malgin, who was injured in last year’s National League finals.

The Karjala Cup is the first leg of the 2024-25 Euro Hockey Tour. It has already announced that Switzerland will host the second leg in Fribourg Dec 12 to 15.

This is the third season that Switzerland has competed in the Euro Hockey Tour, taking the spot vacated when Russia was banned from international competition in 2022.
