Teen phenom Macklin Celebrini takes the reins for the 2026 tournament in Switzerland, backed by veteran alternates John Tavares and Ryan O’Reilly in pursuit of international gold.
Team Canada has officially named their captains for the 2026 IIHF World Hockey Championships early today.
They've named 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini as the captain of the team for the tournament that starts on May 15th.
With Celebrini serving as the captain, he will have a lot of help from his alternate captains. Both John Tavares and Ryan O'Reilly will be wearing the "A" for the tournament.
This is a big role for the 19-year-old, who is coming off a very dominant year with the San Jose Sharks, finishing fourth in points. If things go well in Switzerland, there's a good chance that Celebrini gets the honour of wearing the "C" for the Sharks in the 2026-27 season.
