Florida unites the Tkachuk brothers as the Panthers land Ottawa’s captain for a massive draft package, bringing a gold-medal edge and elite grit to the Sunshine State.
The NHL offseason has its first real blockbuster trade. The Florida Panthers acquired USA gold medallist Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators.
Ottawa is getting the No. 9 and No. 25 picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, a 2027 second-round pick, and a top-10 protected 2029 first-round pick in return. It’s a big futures package. But it also means the Senators are moving on from their captain after eight years in the role.
Brady is now joining his brother Matthew in Florida. They’ve already played together internationally, including at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, where Team USA won gold, and now that becomes a full-time thing at the NHL level.
From Florida’s side, this is the kind of swing they don’t really hesitate on anymore. They keep their core intact while adding a 26-year-old power forward who plays a heavy game and brings exactly what you’d expect from Tkachuk. He had 59 points and 162 hits in 60 games this season, and that style just fits what Florida does.
Now that Brady has wrapped up his time with the Senators. He gets the chance to play with his brother in a market that carries significantly less media pleasure. It's going to be very fun to watch the two Tkachuk brothers feed off each other and see if they can get the Panthers back into the playoffs.
