After recording two assists through 12 games this season Czech Extraliga club Kometa Brno has terminated the contract of 22-year-old forward Maroš Jedlička.

“He’s a very conscientious kid and I can’t say a bad word about him,” said Kometa head coach Kamil Pokorný. “He had an excellent training attitude, but unfortunately, not playing last year was noticeable and he didn’t get as much ice time in this loaded squad. In the end, after mutual agreement, we decided to part ways.”

A native of Trnava, Slovakia and a product of HKM Zvolen, Jedlička was chosen by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round, 219th overall, in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Jedlička went to Colorado’s training camp in 2023 and, despite being a late-round pick, stood out enough that he was expected to be assigned to the team’s AHL farm club Colorado Eagles, but instead underwent shoulder surgery and ultimately missed the entire 2023-24 season.

Jedlička is still an Avalanche prospect but not being able to stick with the Czech Extraliga club is a setback if he was hoping to earn his way back to North America next year. A return to the Slovak Extraliga, where he produced 87 points in 131 games from ages 18 to 20, is possible.
