Jonas Brodin and William Eklund will be among the players named when Sweden announces its roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday, according to HockeyNews.se.
The Swedish hockey website has cited its tip on Brodin to a Värmlands Folkblad article, which is behind a paywall. Brodin, who is having a great season on the defense of the division-leading Minnesota Wild, won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship and at the senior men’s World Championship in 2017. He most recently repesented Sweden at the 2023 Worlds in Tampere and Riga.
Expressen is reporting that Eklund will be on the team. In just his second full NHL season with the San Jose Sharks, the seven-overall pick from 2021 is averaging nearly a point per game with 22 points in 26 games. If true, it will be 22-year-old Eklund’s first major international tournament – his only experience so far at an IIHF event so far was two games at the first attempt to stage the 2021 World Juniors, which was cancelled due to a Covid outbreak among the players.
It might be a big year of international hockey for the Eklunds, as William’s 17-year-old brother Victor is expected to play for Sweden at the upcoming World Junior Championship in Ottawa and to be a first-round draft pick in next summer’s NHL Entry Draft.
