Back in November of the 2024-25 season, the Nashville Predators placed defenseman Dante Fabbro on waivers. Leading up to this, the 2016 first-round pick became the odd man out on the Predators' blueline, being the subject of multiple healthy scratches. He appeared in just six games before this waiver placement, where he had zero and a minus-3 rating.
With the Columbus Blue Jackets needing more defensive depth and having plenty of cap space, they claimed Fabbro off waivers from the Predators. This is a decision that the Blue Jackets must be incredibly happy about, as Fabbro has been excellent for them since.
In 50 games with the Blue Jackets since being claimed off waivers, Fabbro has five goals, 11 assists, 16 points, and a plus-15 rating. Due to his strong all-around play, he is currently on their top pairing with Zach Werenski and second penalty-kill unit. With this, he has undoubtedly become an important part of their blueline.
Sometimes, a player benefits from a change of scenery, and Fabbro is right now. He has taken advantage of his opportunities with the Blue Jackets and is now setting himself up for a raise for his next contract because of it. The 26-year-old defenseman is a pending unrestricted free agent, but given how well he has played for the Blue Jackets, it seems likely they will try to keep him around.
In 315 games over seven seasons with the Predators, Fabbro had 16 goals, 72 points, 317 hits, and a plus-6 rating.
