Peter Green announced his commitment to play college hockey at Arizona State. Who is he, and what does he bring to the table?
It’s been a hot week for NCAA commitments, and Arizona State is the next team to land a future player with Brampton Steelheads defenseman Peter Green. At 6 feet, 190 lbs, Green brings ok size to the Sun Devils' blueline and has shown flashes of being a future NHL draft pick.
He was the 14th overall pick by the Steelheads in the 2025 OHL draft, where he got to play with his older brother, David Green, who’s now playing at Merrimack.
Green was given a W rating by NHL Central Scouting, which is projecting him to be a 6th-7th round pick in the upcoming NHL draft. His current situation may also be why he signed with Arizona State so early, because as it stands right now, the Steelheads are the worst team in the OHL with a 2-12-1-1 record.
Arizona State went through a recent culture shift, and landing Green gives them someone who has been looked upon as a leader before. In his final two seasons of minor hockey with the Don Mills Flyers, Green was the captain in both of those years, showing he can be a leader in a dressing room.
Despite the lack of team success, Green has still put up eight points in 16 games for Brampton. As the season gets closer to the deadline, there’s a good chance a playoff-calibre team trades for him, in hopes of a long post-season and potentially a Memorial Cup run.
In what has been a whirlwind last few months for the Sun Devils, this commitment gives them a player who can play a 200-foot game, has been a leader, and has gone through multiple losing seasons and will be hungry for wins for however long he’s with the program.
A good start to their future recruiting classes, but if they want to be near the top of college hockey, they need to continue adding talent from the major junior leagues.
