Current Wisconsin Badgers forward Cruz Lucius has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Jake Guentzel deal.

It was a busy trade deadline in the NHL that saw a few former college hockey players in trades. But the biggest trade included the former University of Nebraska-Omaha forward being dealt to Carolina in a deal for Cruz Lucius, who is currently playing for Wisconsin.

Lucius, 19 is in his second season with the Badgers and currently leads the team in points with 31. He has only played in 32 of the Badgers' 36 games.

Jake Guentzel played his college hockey for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He played three seasons for the Mavericks where he notched 40 goals and 119 points in 108 games.

Guenztel, 29, has recorded two 40-goal seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and has notched 219 goals and 466 points in 503 career games.

He has now been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for Michael Bunting, prospects Vasily Ponomarev, and Ville Koivunen, the rights to forward Cruz Lucius, a conditional first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.
