The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Boston University defender Cade Webber to a two-year entry-level contract, it was announced Thursday.
The towering 6-foot-7 defender had his rights acquired by the Leafs at this past trade deadline for a 2026 sixth round pick. The contract will see Webber make $875,000 at the NHL level.
Webber, who recently completed his senior season with the Terriers, played in 40 games where he had six assists to go along with 30 penalty minutes. Over the course of his 123 career NCAA games, Webber had one goal and 15 assists for 16 points.
Known more for his impact in his own zone, Webber was named Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman for the 2023-24 season.
Originally selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Webber has already joined the Maple Leafs on the road. While it is unlikely he will see time in the playoffs with the team, Webber will compete for a roster spot at training camp.
