The 2020 second-round pick is close to signing an entry-level deal
The Montreal Canadiens are working towards signing Boston University forward Luke Tuch to an entry-level deal, Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday.
The 2020 47th overall pick of the Canadiens spent the last four seasons with the Terriers where he was able to make an impact on the scoresheet. In 121 career NCAA games, Tuch scored 31 goals and added 40 assists for 71 points.
The native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and younger brother of Buffalo Sabres' right winger Alex Tuch, Luke played his junior hockey with the U.S. National Team Development Program where he accumulated 53 points in 95 games played.
While Tuch will more than likely need some time in the AHL to develop and adjust to professional hockey, he has the tools needed to make a successful adjustment to professional hockey.
Tuch protects the puck well in the offensive zone, using his size to shield the puck and spin off checks to keep the puck in his team's possession. He goes hard to the front of the net and can disrupt play for the opposition by making it hard for the goalie to track the puck through traffic.
While he projects as a bottom-six player at the NHL level, Tuch has been steadily developing in the NCAA and could become a solid player for the Rocket as soon as next season.
