The AHL's Rockford IceHogs have signed former Western Michigan goaltender Cameron Rowe to an amateur try-out, it was announced Thursday.
Rowe, a product of Wilmette, Ill., just wrapped up his fifth NCAA season and his third with the Broncos, collecting a record of 15-2-0 to go along with a 2.00 GAA and a .924 SP across 17 appearances.
In a total of 123 career NCAA games with Western Michigan and Wisconsin, Rowe put together a statline of 69-42-3, a 2.52 GAA and a .907 SP. Prior to making the jump to the college level, Rowe played two seasons with the U.S. NTDP and one season with the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers.
As Rowe makes the jump to the pro level, he could be a sneaky good add for the IceHogs. While he served as the backup down the stretch for the Broncos, Rowe has showed his athleticism and compete during his time in the NCAA and is a good candidate to be a solid pro for a long time.
