Birnie is playing for the WHL's Calgary Hitmen
Calgary Hitmen forward Carson Birnie has committed to Michigan Tech, it was announced earlier this week.
A product of Arcola, Sask., Birnie has appeared in 14 games for the Hitmen, collecting one goal and five points. Before joining the team, he started the season with the Red Deer Rebels, putting up nine goals and 19 points in 35 games.
Drafted by the Rebels in the eighth round of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft, Birnie has appeared in 164 career WHL regular season games, collecting 32 goals and 65 points. Before making the jump, Birnie played his minor hockey in Estevan and Regina.
With Birnie still having a year of junior eligibility left after this season, he will forego that and join the Huskies this fall. As someone who can create plays under pressure and find teammates through layers, Birnie should be able to step into the NCAA as a freshman and play solid minutes for the team.
