LIU’s vibrant powder blue threads blend beach-inspired aesthetics with modern branding to solidify the young program’s identity on the ice.
Our honorable mention in this countdown goes to Long Island University's powder blue jerseys. Introduced in 2023, these jerseys dropped the "LIU" wordmark and let the Shark take center stage.
Despite the Sharks being fairly new to Division I Hockey, I warmed up to the jersey very quickly. The large yellow stripes and white accents are evocative of Long Island's beaches. While it doesn't have the heritage of future jerseys on our list, the bright colors and minimalistic design make it worthy of an honorable mention.
Removing the "LIU" lettering also allows for the Shark itself to be bigger. This increases brand recognition for Long Island University by allowing fans to further associate the Shark with the institution and not rely so heavily on an abbreviation. For a younger program like the Sharks, branding is imperative and this subtle shift helps elevate their profile.
LIU's program just completed its fifth season, earning a 14-18-1 record and culminating in a third place finish at the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup (UCHC). Their offense was led by seniors Noah Serdachny and Trevor Griebel. Serdachny led the team with 13 goals and 29 points, while Griebel earned top marks through his 18 assists.
The Sharks The university recently signed a five year partnership with the NHL's New York Islanders, and is currently renovating their home rink at Northwell Health Ice Center.
Stay tuned for our number ten jersey, which embraces a blank canvas and bold lettering to intimidate opponents from their home in Connecticut.
