Seger spent the last two seasons with the Big Red
The Grand Rapids Griffins have signed Cornell forward Gabriel Seger to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
A native of Uppsala, Sweden, Seger completed his fifth season of NCAA eligibility this year - spending two with Cornell and three with Union College.
This past season with the Big Red, Seger scored 14 goals and added 30 assists for 44 points in 35 games. Over 136 career NCAA games, he scored 35 goals and added 82 assists for 117 points.
Along with leading the Big Red in points this season, Seger took home a list of accolades including ECAC Student-Athlete of the Year, being named to the ECAC First All-Star Team, NCAA All-Ivy Academic Team and NCAA All-Ivy League First Team as well as finishing as a Hobey Baker Nominee.
Prior to making the jump to the NCAA, Seger had one season of North American hockey under his belt as he played for the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL, collecting 70 points in 58 games.
As Seger makes the jump to the AHL, he has a real chance of being an impact player form the get-go. A smart player who can create for himself, Seger will be someone to watch for when training camp opens for the Griffins.
