The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Massimo Rizzo to a two-year entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Rizzo was originally selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh round (216th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft but was traded to the Flyers on Aug. 9, 2023 along with a 2025 fifth round pick in exchange for the right to forward David Kase.
Rizzo, who wrapped up his junior season with the Pioneers, had another impressive season when he was in the lineup. In 30 games played, he accumulated 10 goals and added 34 assists for 44 points, good enough to lead his team in points-per-game.
Over the course of 107 career NCAA games, Rizzo had 39 goals and 87 assists for 126 points as well as two national championships.
While the Flyers just missed making the playoffs this season, they have accumulated a good pool of players to build around in the future. As Rizzo looks to transition to the professional ranks, his skillset should allow him to make an impact almost right away.
