Engelbert and Cassidy just wrapped up their NCAA careers
The ECHL's Bloomington Bison have signed forwards Jamie Engelbert and Matthew Cassidy to one-year deals, the team announced Friday.
Engelbert, a product of Cobourg, Ont., joins the Bison after spending the past five seasons at Providence College. In 2023-24, he scored seven goals and added four assists for 11 points in 27 games. Over 145 career games, Englebert collected 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points.
Engelbert played his junior hockey with the OJHL's Cobourg Cougars before making the jump to the NCAA.
Cassidy, who hails from Medford, N.J., comes to the Bison after spending five seasons in the NCAA with Quinnipiac and Ohio State.
In 24 games last season, Cassidy went pointless but he scored four goals and added 17 assists for 21 points in 103 career NCAA games. Prior to making the jump, he played for the U.S. NTDP, in the AJHL (Brooks Bandits), NAHL (Springfield Jr. Blues) and the USHL (Green Bay Gamblers & Youngstown Phantoms).
As both players get their pro careers underway, it will be interesting to see if either of them can solidify a role for themselves out of the gates. While Cassidy struggled last season, he has shown the ability to produce in the past. With Engelbert, he has shown he can put the puck in the net and could carve a role for himself using that skillset.
