Ethan Wyttenbach was a great story last season as he gears up for a revenge tour. What makes the winger so good?

Ethan Wyttenbach put up an insane freshman season for Quinnipiac last year, scoring 25 goals and 59 points, an NCAA-leading total. But he didn’t win the Hobey Baker Award.

The Calgary Flames' fifth-round pick from 2025 is heading into his sophomore year for the Bobcats, but what makes him so good?

He does a great job of finding pockets of space without the puck and consistently making himself an option for his teammates. He’s an excellent supporting piece within an offensive structure, constantly working to find open ice and maintain his involvement in the play.

Off the rush, he does a great job of crashing the net, filling lanes, and making himself available as an option. He can also drive play at a high level, attacking space with pace and purpose and putting defenses on their heels. His ability to create pressure with the puck allows him to generate opportunities for himself and his teammates.

His shot is very solid overall, but his placement is what stands out most. He has the patience to wait for the right opportunity, whether that means finding a lane to the net or identifying an opening behind the goalie. That same patience translates to his passing game. He’s willing to wait for a teammate to get into position rather than forcing a play, while also understanding when the best option is simply to put the puck on net.

He processes the game extremely quickly, which allows him to consistently make the right play. At times, he keeps things simple, limiting turnovers and maintaining possession. Other times, he recognizes an opportunity to attack and takes the play into his own hands. That ability to adjust his approach based on the situation makes him a very intelligent offensive player.

Overall, he’s a smart, versatile winger who can play a variety of offensive roles. He can support the play, create off the rush, attack space, distribute the puck, or finish chances himself, making him a highly adaptable offensive piece.
