The Carolina Hurricanes have signed former Big Red defenseman Joakim Ryan to a one-year, two-way deal, the team announced Sunday.
The deal will see Ryan make $775,000 at the NHL level and $110,000 at the AHL level.
Drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Ryan spent the past three seasons playing in the SHL with the Malmo Redhawks. In 52 games this season, he scored seven goals and added 11 assists for 18 points.
A native of Rumson, N.J., Ryan spent four seasons at Cornell from 2011-2015, collecting 19 goals and 59 assists for 78 points in 123 games.
As Ryan makes his return to North America, this will be his second stint with the Hurricanes as he suited up in four games with the team during the 2020-21 season.
"We are glad to have Joakim back in Carolina after his time here in 2020-21," Hurricanes' GM Eric Tulsky said in the team's release. "His veteran leadership and experience at the highest levels will be a great asset to our organization."
