Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports - Former Fighting Hawk Paul LaDue signs in Sweden

Former North Dakota defenseman Paul LaDue has signed a one-year deal with MoDo Hockey in the SHL, it was reported Thursday.

A 2012 sixth-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings, LaDue is heading to Sweden after spending this past season with the Bridgeport Islanders (AHL). In 44 regular season games with Bridgeport, LaDue collected eight assists.

Prior to turning pro at the end of the 2015-16 season, LaDue suited up in parts of three seasons for the Fighting Hawks. In 123 career games, he scored 16 goals and added 46 assists for 62 points.

As LaDue heads overseas for the first time in his career, he will most likely be an all-situations defender for MoDo. With LaDue not able to crack an NHL lineup since 2021-22, signing in the SHL could be a great stepping stone to finding his way back to the NHL.
