Former North Dakota forward and current Savannah Ghost Pirate Riese Gaber scored his first professional goal Friday.
Currently in his rookie season in the ECHL, Gaber's tally helped the Ghost Pirates down the Indy Fuel 4-1 in their season opener. He also picked up an assist to give him two points on the night.
A product of Gilbert Plains, Man., Gaber spent four years at North Dakota, cementing himself as a reliable offensive producer. In 142 career games, he scored 64 goals and added 65 assists for 129 points.
Prior to making the transition to the NCAA, Gaber played junior hockey for the Dauphin Kings (MJHL), the Steinbach Pistons (MJHL) and the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL).
While some people have cast doubt on Gaber due to his size, he has proven to be a reliable producer at every level he's played at and it does not look like it will stop. His ability to find open ice in the offensive zone is one of his best traits and his first pro tally was indicative of that. As the Ghost Pirates get set for their next game this week, Gaber will be one to watch.
