Fogarty had a nine-year pro career after finishing his career with the Fighting Irish

Former Notre Dame forward Steven Fogarty has retired from hockey, he announced on social media Monday.

Drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Fogarty enjoyed a nine-year pro career that saw him make stops with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Rochester Americans, Providence Bruins and Iowa Wild.

In his last season this past year, Fogarty scored 18 goals and added 19 assists for 37 points in 69 regular season games with Iowa. Over the course of his career, Fogarty also played in 31 NHL games where he collected three points.

Prior to beginning his pro journey, Fogarty spent four seasons with Notre Dame, scoring 27 goals and adding 38 assists for 65 points in 150 games.

In his retirement post, Fogarty sent out a short but heartfelt message:

"What a ride. Thank you to everyone who played a part in helping me achieve my dream."
