Former Ohio State forward Gunnarwolfe Fontaine has signed a one-year deal with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, it was announced earlier this week.
Hailing from East Greenwich, R.I., Fontaine just wrapped up his fifth NCAA season and first with the Buckeyes, scoring 17 goals and adding 23 assists for 40 points in 40 games. Over a total of 171 career collegiate games with Ohio State and Northeastern, Fontaine put up 49 goals and 88 assists for 137 points.
A 2020 seventh round pick of the Nashville Predators, Fontaine never signed with the team. After his collegiate season wrapped up this year, he joined the AHL's Iowa Wild and appeared in five games for the team, going pointless in the process. Prior to heading off to college, Fontaine played his junior hockey in the USHL with the Chicago Steel.
With Fontaine off to Toronto to join the Marlies, he could be a solid depth signing for the organization. A smart, two-way forward, Fontaine has numerous pro habits at his disposal and should have a long, productive pro career ahead of him.
