Army spent the 2023-24 season working in China

The Anaheim Ducks have hired former Providence College head coach Tim Army as an assistant coach, the team announced Wednesday.

A product of Providence, R.I., Army spent the 2023-24 season working in China. Drafted in the ninth round of the 1981 NHL Draft by the Colorado Rockies, Army enjoyed a two-year pro career before getting into coaching.

Since getting his first job with Providence College as an assistant coach during the 1987-88 season, Army has gone on to work for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (1993-1997), Washington Capitals (1997-2002), Portland Pirates (AHL - 2002-2005), Providence College (1987-1993, 2005-2011), Colorado Avalanche (2011-2017), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL - 2017-2018), and Iowa Wild (AHL - 2018-2023).

As Army gets set to return to the NHL for the first time since 2017, he will join the Ducks as they look to take the next step towards contention. While it may still be a few seasons away before they start doing so, the Ducks have a solid young core of players to work with.
