Former Michigan Wolverines defenseman Steven Kampfer has signed a one-year deal with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, the team announced this past week.
Drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Kampfer spent this past season playing for the Tucson Roadrunners. In 45 regular season games, he scored three goals and added 19 assists for 22 points. Kampfer also saw two playoff games with the team, registering an assist.
Before turning pro at the end of the 2009-10 season, Kampfer spent four years with Michigan, scoring seven goals and collecting 53 assists for 60 points in 147 games.
Across his 14-year playing career, Kampfer has appeared in 231 career NHL regular season games, putting up 39 points in the process.
As Kampfer makes his way to the KHL, this will be his second stint in the league after playing for Ak Bars Kazan in 2021-22. Although he's 35, Kampfer has demonstrated he still has a lot of great hockey left to play.
