Former Acadie-Bathurst Titan defenseman Francois-James Buteau has committed to Canisius, it was announced earlier this week.

Buteau, who hails from Montreal, Que., just finished his fifth season in the QMJHL and first with the Titan, scoring four goals and adding 11 assists for 15 points in 56 regular season games. Over a further five playoff games, he added two goals and three points.

Drafted by the Cape Breton Eagles in the fifth round of the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft, Buteau has suited up for the Eagles, Titan and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In 265 career regular season games, he collected 32 goals and 47 assists for 79 points.

A player who can make a difference with and without the puck, Buteau has the skills needed to translate to the NCAA without much difficulty. While it remains to be seen how the Golden Griffins will line up next season, they should be a fun team to watch.
