Former Rimouski Oceanic forward Jacob Mathieu has committed to Northeastern, it was announced late last week.
Mathieu, a product of St-Odilon-de-Cranbourne, Que., finished his fourth full season with the Oceanic in 2024-25, scoring 41 goals and adding 27 assists for 68 points in 59 regular-season games. With Rimouski having made a deep run in the playoffs, Mathieu added a further 31 points in 23 games.
Having made the jump to the junior level at the end of the 2020-21 season, Mathieu played a total of 250 regular-season games with the Oceanic, putting up 116 goals and 87 assists for 203 points. Before that, he played his minor hockey for Beauce-Appalaches and the Levis Chevaliers.
With Mathieu now making the jump to the NCAA, he will bring his goal-scoring prowess to the Huskies. Having been a major difference maker when it came to putting the puck in the back of the net in the 'Q', Mathieu does it well and that will make him a valuable addition.
