Halifax Mooseheads defenseman Mathieu Taillefer has committed to UMass, it was announced earlier this week.
A product of Richelieu, Que., Taillefer split time this season between the Mooseheads and the BCHL's Brooks Bandits. In 18 BCHL games, he collected one goal and 10 points while putting up three assists in 24 QMJHL regular season games. With Halifax having made the playoffs, Taillefer appeared in 11 games but did not register a point.
Having first made the jump to the junior level in 2023 with the Bandits, Taillefer spent almost his entire junior career in the AJHL and BCHL before the CHL/NCAA agreement allowed him to head to Halifax.
With Taillefer off to join the Minutmen in the fall, he should be able to make a difference at both ends of the ice for his new team. Although his adjustment to the 'Q' took time, he looked better as the season wore on, and he should be able to step in and contribute for a strong UMass team.
