The Michigan State Spartans have signed coach Adam Nightingale to a five-year contract extension, it was announced late last week.
Nightingale's new contract will see him make $1.3 million annually.
Nightingale, a product of Cheboygan, Mich., just wrapped up his third season at the helm for the Spartans, guiding them to a 26-7-4 record along with a Big Ten championship and a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Prior to heading to Michigan State as their coach, Nightingale spent two seasons with the U.S. NTDP as well as four seasons in the NHL as a video coach and assistant coach (three with the Detroit Red Wings and one with the Buffalo Sabres). During his time as a player, he suited up for the Spartans for two seasons between 2003-2005 in addition to parts of four seasons in the ECHL.
With Nightingale extending his contract with the Spartans, they get a major reason for their program's turnaround locked up. With a flurry of new recruits coming in over the next few years, the Spartans should be regular challengers to make the Frozen Four and potentially take home a national championship.
