Johnstown Tomahawks goaltender Nick Avakyan has committed to Clarkson, it was announced late last week.
Avakyan, a product of Glendale, Calif., is currently in his overage season, having spent time in the NAHL and USHL this year. In one appearance with the Sioux City Musketeers, he posted a 5.00 GAA and a .861 SP in a loss. Across 28 regular season appearances with the Tomahawks, Maine Nordiques and Lone Star Brahmas, Avakyan has collected a record of 15-8-3 to go along with a 2.44 GAA and a .923 SP.
Signed by the Tri-City Americans as a free agent in 2021, Avakyan spent parts of three seasons in the WHL with the Americans and the Portland Winterhawks, putting together a statline of 25-32-5, a 4.34 GAA and a .875 SP.
With Avakyan set on joining the Golden Knights in the fall, he has the experience needed to make the jump to the NCAA. A major reason for the Tomahawks success this year, Avakyan has shown athleticism and poise, both of which he should be able to bring with him to the next level.
