Blue Jackets draft pick Andrew Strathmann joins Quinnipiac, bolstering their defense and bringing a championship pedigree to a team eyeing another NCAA tournament run.
Quinnipiac is looking to add another NCAA tournament berth to its resume this upcoming season, and this junior sharpens the iron of the Bobcat defenseman core.
Andrew Strathmann, after two years at North Dakota, heads over to the reigning ECAC regular season champion.
Strathmann, a 21-year-old from Beach Park, IL, has seen success in his past.
The Chicago area kid spent his youth career with the Chicago Mission and Chicago Young Americans AAA programs in a Midwest hockey hotbed.
A one-time WJAC U19 gold medalist and USHL Clark Cup champion, Strathmann will try to carry that winning pedigree to the East Coast.
The 5’11 190 blueliner was just a piece of the Frozen Four run in Las Vegas as well.
Strathmann was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the 98th overall pick back in the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Bobcats are coming off a steady season, finishing 27-10-3 overall. Nonetheless, they hit a roadblock in the ECAC quarterfinals, being shocked and swept by the Clarkson Knights, who wore the eighth seed. Quinnipiac was the tournament #1 due to their success in the regular season.
Still able to get an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament, they put it to value with a first-round victory over Hockey East regular-season champion Providence, but were followed up by a North Dakota team that would advance to the Frozen Four, the very team Andrew Strathmann was on. He was a +1 in the victory.
With Ethan Wyttenbach’s return and a few new additions, the Bobcats could be a heavy amount to handle in the ECAC and beyond next season.
