College hockey returns to PPG Paints Arena for a classic Pennsylvania matchup.
Robert Morris men's hockey will return to PPG Paints Arena on Sunday, February 7, 2027, to face Penn State in a matchup between Pennsylvania's two NCAA Division I men's hockey programs.
The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Pittsburgh and will give the Colonials an opportunity to play on an NHL stage in front of their home-region supporters, alumni and students. It will mark Robert Morris' first appearance at PPG Paints Arena since January 2020.
Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, emphasizing both the venue and the significance of facing another Division I program from Pennsylvania.
"We are really excited about once again playing at PPG Paints Arena. It is an elite venue and the Penguins have been an outstanding partner for college hockey. We have had a lot of history in that that building and to be able to play the only other NCAA D1 PA school is something we are excited about," Schooley told Frank Zawrazky of The Hockey News.
PPG Paints Arena has been the site of several notable games in Robert Morris hockey history. The Colonials have put together a 9-10 record at the venue, hosting or playing in games against prominent college hockey opponents. Their previous appearance came against Penn State on January 11, 2020, when the Nittany Lions took the game with a 6-2 victory.
The February 2027 meeting will renew a series that featured 12 matchups between the programs from 2012 through 2020. Penn State won eight of those contests, including the most recent meeting.
The game will also take place during the NHL All-Star break, creating an opportunity to bring college hockey into the spotlight in Pittsburgh. With the Penguins' home arena serving as the backdrop, the matchup offers both programs a chance to connect with fans across western Pennsylvania.
