Mahshie played for UConn this past season after four years at RPI

The ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears have signed former UConn and RPI forward Ryan Mahshie to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

A product of Stoney Creek, Ont., Mahshie played for the Huskies in 2023-24, collecting two goals and three assists for five points in 21 games. He also got into 12 games with the Solar Bears at the end of the season, putting up a goal.

Over the course of his five years in the NCAA, Mahshie also played for the Engineers. In a total of 106 games across that timespan, he had 26 goals and 24 assists for 50 points.

Prior to joining the NCAA, Mahshie spent two years playing for the Brooks Bandits (AJHL).

With Mahshie turning pro full time, he will have the opportunity to solidify a role with the Solar Bears early on in 2024-25. While his numbers took a bit of a dip last year, he put up 22 points in 31 games in 2022-23 and could be a secret offensive threat for the Solar Bears.
