Trenton Golden Hawks goaltender Ryan Sanborn has committed to the University of Connecticut, it was confirmed earlier this week.

Sanborn, a product of Brookfield, Conn., has split time this season between the NAHL, NCDC and the OJHL. In one game with the NAHL's Minnesota Mallards, he went 0-1 while putting up a 8.00 GAA and a .771 SP. With the NCDC's Jersey Hitmen, he also made one appearance, losing the game in extra frames while collecting a 4.04 GAA and a .871 SP.

Since making the move to join the Golden Hawks though, Sanborn has found a different level, collecting a record of 20-1-1 along with a 1.76 GAA and a .938 SP in 22 regular season games. With the Golden Hawks currently playing in Calgary for the Centennial Cup, Sanborn has been a key reason for them making it that far, going 16-4-1 in the playoffs while collecting a 1.97 GAA and a .935 SP.

Prior to this season, Sanborn spent time playing his minor hockey with the Mid Fairfield Rangers and the Buffalo Regals. He also spent time playing prep hockey for The Hill School before getting in one season with the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings.

With Sanborn heading back to his home state for school, he could be one to watch for the Huskies next year. His season did not get off to the start he had hoped but Sanborn has found his game and few goalies have had more success since he joined the Golden Hawks. If he can carry over his play to his freshman season, opposing teams should watch out.
