The San Jose Sharks have selected Boston University forward Macklin Celebrini with the first overall pick.
Widely considered the best prospect available in the 2024 NHL Draft, Celebrini finished his freshman year with the Terriers this past season. In 38 games played, he scored 32 goals and added 32 assists for 64 points.
Finishing third in the NCAA in total points behind fellow Sharks prospect Will Smith and Anaheim Ducks prospect Cutter Gauthier, Celebrini took home quite the list of accolades this past season.
Along with being the youngest ever winner of the Hobey Baker, Celebrini was named Hockey East Player of the Year, Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Hockey East Scoring Champion, NCAA Top Collegiate Rookie (Tim Taylor Award) as well as being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, All-Tournament Team and First All-Star Team to name a few.
Celebrini should move seamlessly into the NHL next season alongside the Sharks young cast of players.
While it has been a rough go for the Sharks over the last several years, adding Celebrini to the mix should create some much needed excitement for Sharks fans. The future is bright in the Bay Area.
