Three players announced their commitment to the Tommies this week.

St. Thomas has grown its incoming class by three over the last few days, adding to an already-strong incoming roster.

Kade Stengrim was the latest commitment, declaring his intentions Tuesday morning in an Instagram post.

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the University of St. Thomas,” Stengrim wrote. “Huge thank you to my family, friends, coaches and teammates who have supported me.”

Stengrim is a big left-shot forward at 6-foot-4 and 207 pounds. He’s returning home to his native Minnesota after a year with the Medicine Hat Tigers. A Brainerd native, Stengrim played for his high school in 2022-23 and 2023-24, producing above a point per game each year.

Stengrim then joined the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL for the 2024-25 season, where his numbers fell off a cliff, registering just 17 points in 50 games. He traded the USHL for the WHL this season and saw an offensive resurgence with Medicine Hat, posting 44 points in 66 games with 25 goals. He also scored 11 points in 16 playoff games for the Tigers.

Stengrim was formerly a St. Cloud State commit, but decommitted in April.

Joining Stengrim in flipping his commitment to the Tommies this week is Aiden Grossklaus, who was formerly committed to Minnesota State.

“Beyond grateful to announce my commitment to play Division 1 Hockey at the University of St. Thomas,” Grossklaus wrote on Instagram. “Thank you God, Parents, and Advisor. #rolltoms”

Grossklaus is also a Minnesota native, hailing from Woodbury. The 5-foot-11, 181-pound right-shot forward is more defensively minded than his incoming teammate, labeled a PK specialist on Elite Prospects

He and Stengrim followed similar paths — Grossklaus also played two years of Minnesota high school hockey for Woodbury High before heading to the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers. After registering 19 points in 59 games, he left for the Wenatchee Wild of the WHL, where he scored 17 goals and 17 assists in 64 games.

David Rozsíval followed a slightly different path. Selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 6th round in 2025, he is the only drafted player of the three, but he was playing in the Czech leagues until this season. The 6-foot-1, 187-pound left-shot right wing came to the US this year to play for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL. The transition seems to have gone relatively smoothly, as Rozsíval scored 23 goals and 14 assists in 57 games and was a +16. He’s a strong forechecking winger.

He announced his commitment on Instagram on Monday, writing, I am very honored and exited [sic] to announce my commitment to play division 1 college hockey and further my education at the University of St. Thomas. I would like to thank God, my family, friends, advisors, coaches, teammates, and everyone who helped me along the way. #rolltoms”

St. Thomas has been a program on the rise since making the jump from D3 to D1 in 2021. The Tommies officially became a D1 team last summer. This year, St. Thomas will switch from the CCHA to the NCHC, which will change their quality of competition significantly. These players should help them in their games against the last two national champions in Denver and Western Michigan.
