Tommies land 2026 NHL Draft prospect Andrew O'Neill. His gritty two-way game and defensive mindset ignite St. Thomas's upward trajectory.
The Tommies continue to only go one direction, up.
St. Thomas pulls a solid landing from Andrew O’Neill, a prospect eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft.
A 2007 from Fargo, North Dakota, O’Neill came from his first season in Canada, with the Edmonton Oil Kings, slotting 43 points in 65 games, while also registering a +25 on the ice.
He was originally committed to prestigious North Dakota where he grew up, but has since flipped to the Tommies.
The Elite Prospects 2026 draft guide states, “A hard-working centre, O’Neill’s defensive impact comes through his mentality.” A textbook gritty mentality described; it was also mentioned, “Even if he can’t get a clean stop, he wins possession on the second or third try.”
St. Thomas is coming off a 21-12-5 record, ending up just a game shy of an NCAA tournament appearance, losing to the Mason Cup dominant Minnesota State Mavericks up in Mankato.
The Tommies made the jump from division three to division one in 2021, now making the jump from the CCHA to the NCHC, arguably the NCAA’s strongest conference, as they have produced yet another National Championship from the conference with Denver’s recent victory.
A campus and developed arena are definitely more attractive to recruits, and the evidence shows in this huge addition for the Tommies.
