The Tommies will become the tenth team to join the conference when it becomes official in July 2026

St. Thomas will join the National Collegiate Hockey Conference as its tenth full-time member beginning in the 2026-27 season, the NCHC announced Wednesday.

In a board of directors meeting held Tuesday night, the decision was made via unanimous vote.

For the second time in the last two years, the conference will be adding a new team after Arizona State was approved last year.

While the Tommies will have to wait another two years before joining the conference, the Sun Devils will become an official member starting July 1.

"The NCHC is excited to welcome the University of St. Thomas to our ranks in 2026-27," said NCHC Commissioner Heather Weems in the NCHC's official release. "St. Thomas's institutional vision and commitment to nationally competitive hockey, as well as their central location in our footprint and new facility, make them an ideal fit."

The Tommies played this past season as members of the CCHA, finishing with a 15-20-2 record.

When St. Thomas joins the NCHC, they will join a list of teams that include Arizona State, Colorado College, Denver, Miami, Minnesota-Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan.
