College hockey is back for another stacked lineup. Which are the best games, and what to expect from these matchups.

Another week means another set of elite matchups in college hockey in what is likely the most competitive season the sport has seen. Last week brought blowouts, comeback wins, upsets, and teams stamping their names in the national title conversation. Let’s take a look at some of the best matchups for this upcoming weekend and what it means for these teams.

Boston University vs Michigan State

Two of the biggest names in college hockey face off this weekend, with both teams having a lot to prove. Michigan State had a rocky weekend against New Hampshire, splitting the games and scoring only two goals in that matchup. They followed that up with a huge win over North Dakota, 5-3, with two goals from forward Anthony Romani.

BU is also riding into this weekend hot after sweeping the ranked Maine Black Bears, dominating 7-2 in the first game before winning a 3-2 overtime thriller to complete the sweep. In that 7-2 win, the Terriers had seven different goal scorers, showing the kind of scoring depth they possess. This will be a big matchup for both teams to prove they’re truly contenders for the title.

Western Michigan vs North Dakota

North Dakota enters this weekend on a three-game losing streak after Minnesota swept them and Michigan State beat them in the Hall of Fame Game. Minnesota brought speed and creativity to the weekend, which helped them look so good against the Fighting Hawks.

Related stories

Western Michigan comes off a 17-6 weekend against LIU and is firing on all cylinders. A player to look out for is freshman Adam Benak, who will be driving the play and creating chances, similar to how Minnesota’s L.J. Mooney did against North Dakota.

Augustana vs Michigan Tech

Augustana dominated Northern Michigan last weekend, 16-1, with one of those being a 12-0 win to open the matchup. Michigan Tech, however, struggled to score against Ferris State, posting a 4-3 weekend win and splitting games with the Bulldogs.

If Michigan Tech can limit offensive chances, they’ll be in a very similar situation. Michigan Tech has five one-goal wins this season and has proven that tight games go in their favour. If they play strong hockey for two periods, they’ve shown they can shut games down in the third.
