Which players should you look out for on tonight's college hockey slate, and which players have something to prove early on in the season?
The College hockey season is off to a hot start with multiple upsets, player breakouts, and players falling behind the eight ball. Going into tonight’s slate of games, which players should be on the lookout for, and who has a potential big night ahead?
Victor Plante - Left Winger - Minnesota Duluth
With his older brother Max suffering an injury and being week-to-week, the youngest Plante brother will have to step up and fill a large void after a tough Friday night.
Duluth lost to Augustana 4-3 in overtime, and there was a clear missing spark, or at least someone who could take the game by the collar and make it his.
Plante will need to play with speed today to put the opposing defensemen on their heels, and if he can top his one assist from last night, it’ll put them in a position to succeed.
Michael Hage - Center - Michigan
Michigan smoked Alaska Anchorage last night with a 10-1 beatdown, but Hage was left with just a single assist.
There shouldn’t be any panic button hit, considering he has eight points in three games, but if he wants to be at the top of the Hobey Baker list at the end of the season, he’ll need to join his teammates in racking up points in those games. Considering how last night went, Anchorage will likely be a lot better in their own zone, and it will force Hage to truly take over the game.
Ryder Cali - Center - Providence
Cali, in his first NCAA game last night, posted his first goal of the season in a 6-2 win over St. Lawrence, but he has the ability to do so much more and get his season off on the right foot.
He’s gearing up to play the 1-0 Clarkson Golden Knights, who took down UMass Lowell and now have their eyes set on the Friars. Cali plays a heavy north-south game with the ability to score goals, and if he gets off to a hot start, he could become not just a good player at the college level, but a true difference-maker as a freshman.
