Notre Dame’s bold alternate sweater ditches usual wordmarks for a golden crest, blending flair with a regal navy backdrop.

When people think of the Fighting Irish, gallant gold often comes to mind. This new alternate jersey puts that signature shine front and center, honoring Notre Dame's legacy with a bold yet minimalistic design.

A primary "ND" logo is used on the front rather than the typical home/away wordmarks. Having the crest oversized and fully gold allows it to pop on the solid navy backdrop. Notre Dame is privileged to have such strong brand awareness with the "ND," and the placement on this jersey uses the logo to its full effect.

Further elevating the design is the lack of shoulder patches. Teams include them to add an extra piece of their identity. Utilizing a shamrock in this place, even in gold, would take away from the "ND's" prominence. Instead Addition by subtraction helps the Irish sweeten this sweater.

The intense hues continue on other parts of the jersey. Golden numbers and stripes give a regal air to an on ice garment. A lighter shade is used for stripes, creating a subtle yet effective contrast that gives the sweater another dimension. My only critique is that the nameplate text and numerical shadows should be that lighter gold, rather than white.

Notre Dame had a rebuilding year in 2025-26 going 9-23-5. Junior Evan Werner led the Irish with 17 goals and 34 points, while Graduate Student Sutter Muzzatti earned a team high 19 assists.

A fresh crop of recruits and key transfers are inbound to South Bend this fall. Talented players including David Klee, Danny Klaers, Leo Gruba, and recent National Champion Hagen Burrows should make the Fighting Irish significantly better. This their upgraded roster is a new beginning for Notre Dame. With it, it makes sense to debut this unique vibrant look as their new home jersey.
