USCHO Poll: Gophers Keep Climbing

Denver stays at No. 1, Penn State enters the mix in this week's USCHO.com Division I Men's College Hockey poll

The No. 1-ranked Denver Pioneers remain atop the poll after sweeping Wisconsin at Magness Arena.

The Pios pulled away with two third-period goals on Friday and took a lopsided 6-1 affair the following night.

#2 Boston College

The Eagles stormed back from a two-goal deficit against Western Michigan in their only game this past weekend.

Freshman forward Teddy Stiga (NSH) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career,

Sophomore forward Ryan Leonard (WSH) tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner late in the third period.

Boston College will face a significant road test against a surging St. Cloud team this weekend.

#3 Michigan State

The Spartans took care of business on the road against Canisius, outscoring the Griffins 7-1 between the two games.

Sophomore goaltender Trey Augustine (DET) pitched a 15-save shutout on Friday night.

Junior forward Joey Larson tallied a pair of goals on eight shots and three points overall on the weekend.

Michigan State gets a well-deserved week off before hosting Ohio State for two at Munn Ice Arena.

#4 Minnesota (1)

The Gophers convincingly swept St. Thomas.

Junior forward Brody Lamb (NYR) recorded four goals on the weekend, including a hat trick in Saturday's 6-2 win.

Sophomore defenseman Sam Rinzel (CHI) tallied a five-point weekend, including two goals in Friday's 7-1 victory.

Minnesota faces an early-season test this weekend, hosting Penn State for two.

#3 Boston University

The Terriers split their two-game series against North Dakota at The Ralph.

After being blown out on Friday night, BU responded with a closely-contested 4-3 win the following night.

Sophomore defenseman Tom Willander (VAN) scored the go-ahead goal with under four minutes left in regulation, extending his point streak to five games.

#8 Colorado College

The Tigers kept their record unblemished with a two-game sweep against Alaska Anchorage.

#10 St. Cloud State

The Huskies took a pair of one-goal games against visiting Augustana this past weekend.

Junior defenseman Josh Zinger tallied a pair of goals on three shots and three points overall between the two games.

Senior forward Nick Portz found the back of the net twice in Friday's 4-3 win.

St. Cloud gets No. 2 Boston College at home for two this weekend.

#16 Minnesota State

The Mavericks swept No. 16-ranked Omaha at home.

Junior forward Adam Eisele recorded the lone goal and game-winner on Saturday to back Alex Tracy's 27-save shutout.

Minnesota State begins a four-game road trip with two games at Bemidji State this weekend.

#18 Penn State

The Nittany Lions jump into the poll after their clean sweep over St. Lawrence this past weekend.

Freshman forward Keaton Peters provided the go-ahead goal, his first and the eventual game-winner in Friday's 3-2 win.

Freshman forward Charlie Cerrato tallied an assist and a goal to help Penn State to a 3-1 win on Saturday.

The Nittany Lions travel to Minnesota this weekend for a ranked showdown with the Gophers.
