The Washington Capitals have signed forward Ryan Leonard to a three-year entry-level deal, it was announced Monday.
Leonard, a 2023 first round pick of the Capitals, just wrapped up his sophomore season at Boston College where he scored 30 goals and added 19 assists for 49 points in 37 games. Across 78 career NCAA games, Leonard collected 61 goals and 48 assists for 109 points.
Before joining the Eagles, Leonard spent two seasons at the U.S. NTDP playing alongside Will Smith and Gabe Perreault. A dominant trio, Leonard accumulated 77 goals and 137 points in 119 games.
As Leonard makes the jump to the Capitals, he is expected to make his NHL debut when Washington takes on the Boston Bruins Tuesday night. With Leonard being one of the best prospects outside of the NHL in recent years, Capitals fans should be excited for what should be a major pillar of their future joining the team.
