Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports - Minnesota-Duluth's Cole Spicer won't return to team in 2024-25, stepping away from hockey

University of Minnesota-Duluth forward Cole Spicer will not return to the team next season, Matt Wellens reported Friday.

Spicer, who did not play for the Bulldogs during the second half of the 2023-24 season due to academic ineligibility, is stepping away from hockey "for the foreseeable future."

In an interview with Wellens, Spicer mentioned he needed to step away to "figure a couple things out."

Drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, the 2023-24 NCAA season marked Spicer's second with the Bulldogs. In 17 games, he scored five goals and added four assists for nine points. Over the course of 49 career games, Spicer had eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.

While it remains to be seen what his future holds, as Wellens talks about in his article, Spicer would have to become academically eligible again if he wishes to continue playing in the NCAA.
