The former Maine commit is now joining the Riverhawks next year.

UMass-Lowell secured a second flipped player for its incoming class this week as they announced that Kuzma Voronin would be joining them next season. Voronin is a left-shot left winger who was formerly committed to Maine.

Kuzma is a native of Yaroslavl in Russia, and began his hockey career playing for U16 Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He moved to New Jersey the next year to play for the New Jersey Rockets, spending most of his season with the 16U team, where he racked up an astonishing 154 points in 89 games, including 67 goals. He also earned four points in three games with the U18 Rockets team and 5 points in six games, four of them goals, in a brief callup with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.

He made the jump to the USHL full time with the Phantoms next year, but his production slowed considerably. In 52 games, he managed just 21 points. The trend continued in his second year with the Phantoms with just 16 points in 33 games. Clearly, Voronin still had his scoring abilities, though, as he earned 12 points in 16 games with the Fargo Force after a midseason trade.

After finishing his year with the Phantoms, Voronin changed tracks and joined the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. There, his production increased significantly, with 25 goals and 35 points in 58 games, and added 17 points in 17 playoff games. He was also suspended 5 games for abuse of officials after he punched an official during a scrum.

Voronin is known for his high compete and his fast skating, which helps compensate for his 5-foot-11, 172-lb frame.
