Sweden has unveiled the 25-man roster that will represent the nation at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing next month.
With the opening ceremony only a few weeks away, Olympic rosters have been coming in hot and heavy this week.
Sweden is the latest nation to get in on the action, revealing the 25-man group that will head to Beijing next month to vie for gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Despite the NHL opting against sending its players to the 2022 Games back in December, Sweden still has a sizeable big-league contingent on its roster.
Leading the forward corps is veteran Marcus Kruger, who played 520 NHL games across nine seasons for the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes, establishing himself as an effective shutdown center. Kruger now plays Zurich SC of the Swiss league after heading overseas at the end of the 2019 season.
Joining Kruger upfront is Anton Lander, a former second-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers back in 2009 who suited up in 215 games, all with the team that drafted him, before heading to the KHL in 2017.
26-year-old Jacob de la Rose brings NHL experience of his own to Sweden's lineup, with the former second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens having skated in 242 career games for the Habs, Detroit Red Wings, and St. Louis Blues, playing 13 games for the latter in 2021 before going back home to the SHL.
With the playing field as even as it has ever been this year, gold is anyone's for the taking. These Olympics are shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet.
