The star defenseman leaves Vancouver as their all-time points-getter on defense.

Vancouver Canucks star defenseman and captain Quinn Hughes has been traded to the Minnesota Wild for a 2026 1st round pick, C Marco Rossi, D Zeev Buium and F Liam Ohgren, per Frank Seravalli.

At the time of the trade, Hughes had 23 points in 26 games for the Canucks. He finishes his Canucks career as their all-time points leader among defensemen, with 432 points in 459 career games.

Hughes was drafted seventh overall by the Canucks in 2018 and was named team captain in 2023. He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as best defenseman in 2024 and was a finalist for the award in 2025. He was also the runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy as best rookie in 2020.

The main piece coming back in the trade is center Marco Rossi, who is currently day-to-day. He was drafted ninth overall by the Wild in 2020 and was on the 2024 all-rookie team. He had 13 points in 17 games at the time of the trade and finishes his Wild career with 114 points in 202 games.

Defenseman Zeev Buium was drafted 12th overall by the Wild in 2024, and had 14 points in 31 games at the time of the trade. Forward Liam Ohgren was drafted 19th overall by the Wild in 2022, and is pointless and a minus-3 in his first 18 games of the season. Ohgren finishes his Wild career with 7 points in 46 games.

The Canucks currently have 25 points with an 11-17-3 record and sit last in the Pacific Division. The Minnesota Wild are currently 17-9-5 with 39 points, good for third in the Central.

Hughes will be joining an already-talented Minnesota roster that includes recently-extended star winger Kirill Kaprizov and key pieces such as Filip Gustavsson in net, Matt Boldy on the wing and Brock Faber and Jonas Brodin on defense.
