Flyers Reportedly Rejected Islanders Trade to Secure Porter Martone Flyers Reportedly Rejected Islanders Trade to Secure Porter Martone The Philadelphia Flyers were open to lots of things ahead of the NHL Draft, but, ultimately, a bold New York Islanders trade offer wasn't enough to pull them away from selecting Porter Martone with the sixth overall pick.

The Flyers were always getting Porter Martone. The Islanders were never getting James Hagens.

As we know, the Islanders were trying to move heaven and earth to try and get back to the top of the first round of the NHL Draft to swoop in and draft hometown hero James Hagens.

The Flyers were reportedly one of the teams who said, "No, we're good."

Comments made by the Flyers in the immediate aftermath of the draft tell us they valued Martone extremely highly, and perhaps top-3 in the draft class.

    Tough luck, Long Island.
