Detroit Red Wings teammates Lucas Raymond and Ben Chiarot got heated in practice after losing six straight games and barely falling out of a playoff spot.

Hockey players battle hard, whether it's in a game or in practice. They also hate to lose, and the Detroit Red Wings saw what happens when frustrations build.
After a 7-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres extended the Red Wings' losing streak to six games, forward Lucas Raymond and defenseman Ben Chiarot got into a scuffle during a drill at Wednesday's practice. In a video posted to social media by Jeanna Trotman of WXYZ Detroit, five other teammates got involved in trying to break it up.
After the skirmish, when Raymond put his helmet back on, he and Chiarot exchanged a few more words before lining up for the next drill repetition.
It's not the first time in recent memory that two teammates got heated in practice and went at it in the NHL. Most times, it's two players battling it out in the heat of the moment.
The Red Wings had a six-game winning streak before this losing skid. After their sixth win on Feb. 27, they sat in the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, eight points safe of the first team on the outside looking in and 10 points clear of the New York Islanders.
Since then, that cushion has vanished. The Islanders went on a six-game win streak, while the Red Wings have been outscored 11-32. New York currently has the tiebreaker for the second wild card on points percentage.
Detroit's captain, Dylan Larkin, hasn't played since March 2 with a lower-body injury. Their leading scorers in the six-game drought are defensemen Olli Maatta and Shayne Gostisbehere and forward David Perron, with four points.
Raymond, 21, has just a goal and an assist during that time, with a minus-10 rating. Chiarot, 32, also has a minus-10 rating while seeing his ice time drop to 17:38 per game from 19:39 per game this season until the losing streak.
The Red Wings' next five games are against the Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets and Islanders. Four of those teams aren't in playoff spots, while the Islanders are direct competition in the wild-card race. These are massive moments for the Red Wings, and showing some emotion in practice won't hurt in trying to turn the team's performance around.
Ryan Kennedy and Connor Somerville discussed ahead of Detroit's loss on Tuesday whether Red Wings fans should be concerned with Larkin out of the lineup and the losses building. Here's what they said on The Hockey News Pre-Game Show, presented by Upper Deck:
