The Edmonton Oilers clash with the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at Rogers Place.
The Edmonton Oilers look to turn their 10-game winning streak into an 11-game winning streak. They will be looking for win #24 on the season against a team that they should be grateful towards.
Jack Campbell, Zach Hyman, and Connor Brown are all former Toronto Maple Leafs players. While Brown and Campbell's seasons haven't gone swimmingly for the Oilers, Hyman has been nothing short of spectacular.
Returning to Edmonton for the first time since being traded for Brett Kulak is 27-year old William Lagesson. Unfortunately he will not be dressing for tonight's game - although he did participate in today's morning skate.
Key to the Game
The Oilers' best bet at a win tonight is to settle the game in regulation. The Maple Leafs have won 21 games this season - eight have come in extra time.
If the Oilers can hit the ground running from first puck drop and score two or three goals in the first period, they should be set up for success. That shouldn't be difficult for the team to do considering they are second in the NHL in goals scored in the first period. They have 51 goals in the first period, while the Maple Leafs have only scored 41 goals in the opening frame.
More importantly than settling the game without extra time, the Oilers will need to withstand the second period onslaught that has characterized the Maple Leafs season. They have 51 goals scored in the second period - which has them ranked sixth in the NHL.
Winning tonight would move the Oilers up to the first Wild Card position in the Western Conference.
