Despite injuries to two of its key forwards, Florida is the overwhelming favorite to win the Stanley Cup. But can the Leafs, Capitals and Rangers spoil the Panthers' bid for a third championship in four years?

Although the NHL season is just underway, several teams have seen movement in Stanley Cup odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

Some of these changes have been in place since odds opened at the start of the offseason, but a few others have changed since the season began.

Here are four teams whose odds have moved, as of Oct. 7.

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers’ odds to win the Stanley Cup opened at +1100, but are now down to +700 — tied for the shortest in the league. And that's after losing captain Aleksander Barkov and potentially Brad Marchand to knee injuries.

Despite the absences, the Panthers are 2-0-2 to open the season.

The next couple of months will determine whether Florida stay atop the Atlantic Division. A big factor will be the productivity of Brady Tkachuk, who team acquired in the off-season to play with his brother, Matthew, but is still searching for his first point in a Panthers jersey.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto opened at +6000 to win the Stanley Cup. Those odds improved to +3000 at the start of the season, when the Maple Leafs traded for Kirill Marchenko. And following rookie Gavin McKenna's first goal and first assist, they are now are +2800.

So, time to plan the parade?

Well, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. But the Leafs, who started the season 2-2-0 at home, will now head out of town for their first road trip. And with stops in Vegas, Colorado and Utah, it's not going to be easy to come away with six points.

Washington Capitals

When odds were released following the Stanley Cup final, Washington opened at +5000, but now are +1600.

Part of that improvement was that the Capitals were extremely aggressive in the off-season, adding four big-name players in Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner and Vincent Desharnais.

Another factor? On Tuesday, longtime captain Alex Ovechkin announced that this season will be his final in the NHL, causing some to believe that the Russian's Last Dance could possibly result in a Stanley Cup.

New York Rangers

New York didn’t see much movement after opening at +8000, but following the first week of the year, they are down to +6600.

The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in the league, starting the season 4-1.

Defense and goaltending have been the catalyst, as they have allowed five goals combined in their last four games. Another factor has been Alexis Lafreniere, who recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders, showing critics why he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in 2020.
